Pittsburgh – The Port to the West is the history of people and why they acted
and worked as they did in the early 18th Century. Choosing to immigrate to the American Colonies, they signed contracts to get to America. Then, completing
their contracts, they moved West, often by walking. They settled new lands; some developed business with Native Americans. Others set up businesses, established schools, built boats to help travelers to use the river to go West. The result was the place called the "Forks of the Ohio," where the Monongahela and the Allegheny Rivers join to form the Ohio River, became the best port to the West – Pittsburgh!
